Wayside Cross. May originally have been an early Christian stone converted to a
cross in late medieval times. Roughly squared granite Latin cross with very short
arms. The shaft bears an inscription which runs in 3 lines downwards but is
virtually illegible although it has been interpreted as a personal name preceded by
a title of authority accompanied by a symbol of Christianity. The cross has later
had the initials of Hatherleigh, Okehampton, Tavistock and Launceston inscribed on
its various faces as a guide-post.
