2/38 Snittlegarth and adjoining stables 3.3.67 II
Farmhouse and adjoining stables. Early C18 with alterations and extensions dated 1801 over entrance. Limestone rubble walls,with eaves modillions and flush quoins,on chamfered plinth, under graduated greenslate roof with large C19 stone chimney stacks, stone-coped gables and kneelers. 2 storeys, 5 bays with right 2-bay extension under common roof of double span; right-angled stables to left forming overall L-shape. 6-panel door within prostyle porch with Ionic columns, triglyphs and dentilled cornice. Sash windows in enlarged C19 stone surrounds. Stable is joined to house by a low extension with segmental archway under C20 casement window. Stable has blocked central doorway and irregularly-spaced C19 and C20 windows. Rear of house has C19 sash windows with glazing bars and Venetian staircase window with intersecting glazing bars in head, all in painted stone surrounds. Rear of stables has plank doors, sash windows and loft openings in red sandstone surrounds. Partly-blocked large segmental carriage archway to right with alternate-block surround. Mounting block against this wall has scrolled vine design.
