Details
HOLCOMBE ROGUS FORE STREET, Holcombe Rogus ST O1 NE 5/110 - Town house including front area railings GV II
House. Circa 1880. Plastered stone rubble, maybe with brick; stone rubble or brick stacks with plastered chimneyshafts on shaped shoulders which have Hamstone coping; slate roof. Plan: tall house set back a little from Fore Street to the south. It is 2 rooms wide: and double depth. The entrance is in the centre of the left (west) end into an entrance hall which contains the main stair. This divides the front 2 principal rooms from the rear 2 service rooms. The rooms have end stacks. The right (east) end is terraced into the hillslope. 2 storeys. Exterior: symmetrical 2-window front of large 12-pane sashes. Deep eaves are supported by a regular series of shaped brackets and roof is hipped each end. Entrance in left end contains original panelled door. Interior: includes a great deal of original joinery and other detail. A narrow strip of ground along the front is fenced by cast-iron spear-headed railings contemporary with the house. This is one of an attractive group of listed buildings in the centre of Holcombe Rogus village.
