Details

HOLCOMBE ROGUS SOUTH STREET, Holcombe Rogus ST 01 NE 5/131 Hillside - GV II House. Mid or late C19, probably earlier origins, C20 extension. Plastered stone rubble, maybe with some cob; stone rubble stacks, one with a stone rubble chimneyshaft and both topped with C20 brick; slate roof, probably thatch originally. Plan: L-plan building. The main block faces onto the street to the south-east. It has a 2-room plan with central entrance hall and staircase between the rooms. These rooms have gable-end stacks. C20 C20 service block at right angles to rear of the right room. 2 storeys. Exterior: symmetrical 3-window front of late C19 and C20 replacement casements with glazing bars arranged around a central doorway which contains a C19 part-glazed panelled door under a contemporary monopitch hood on curving struts with ball pendants. Roof is gable-ended. Interior: has no exposed carpentry. The joinery detail is C19 and C20. Hillside is one of an attractive group of listed buildings in the centre of the village.
