ST 01 SE UFFCULME 4/141 Stenhill Cottage - - II Detached cottage. Early C17. Roughcast cob on stone footings; half-hipped thatched roof. 2-room plan cottage; the entrance leads directly into the right- hand room which is heated by an internal end stack with brick shaft. A left-hand end stack has been dismantled. The cottage is of jointed cruck construction; the internal partition between the 2 rooms rises from ground floor to roof, and stands independently of the 2 trusses which are set close to each end of the building. Winder stair in left-hand near corner. 2 storeys. Exterior: Front. 2-window range; first floor: 1 late-C19 2-light casement window to the left, and above the door, set high under the eaves, a small 2-light fixed casement window with chamfered mullion and surround, probably early C17. Ground floor : roughly central doorway with C20 planked door; late C19 2-light casement window to left, another of 2 lights earlier, with pegged frame to right. C19 2- light window to right-hand end. Interior: Unstopped ceiling beams to right-hand room. Alcock F2 apex carpentry to jointed cruck trusses.
