Details
ST OO NE KENTISBEARE FORE STREET, Kentisbeare 8/101 Glumsters - GV II Two dwellings. C17 or earlier, with C19 and later alterations and additons. Roughcast cob on stone footings; half-hipped thatched roof. The original plan is not certain; probably a 3-room, through-passage plan house, the service end to the right of the passage and heated by a rear external lateral stack with set offs and a very tall brick shaft, with a further room beyond, probably added in the C19. Hall heated by an axial stack backing onto the passage; inner room, rebuilt and subdivided, now forms a separate dwelling heated by another axial stack. Both axial stacks with brick shafts. 2 storeys. Exterior Front: the rebuilt inner room is slightly recessed from the plane of the front; overall a 6 window range, all windows with late C20 casements, those to the first floor with lintels at eaves level, except for the extreme left-hand window which has an eyebrow eave. Late C20 fenestration to left-hand side and rear. Slated lean-to to right-hand end. Interior (not.fully inspected): jointed cruck truss (one blade observed to rear of passage, side pegged joint with long straight upper member, possibly C17). Service end fireplace blocked, ceiling beam to this room axial, chamfered with run-out stops. Large chamfered lintel to hall fireplace. Unstopped chamfered axial beam to inner room.
