Details
ST OO NE KENTISBEARE SILVER STREET (south side) Kentisbeare 8/114 Nos 1, 2 and 3 Catford Court - II 3 dwellings, formerly a single farmhouse. C17 or earlier. Roughcast cob on stone plinth, gable end slate roof. Originally a 3-room, through-passage plan house, the service end (now no 3) to the left of the passage, with a higher end extension that returns to form a range of outbuildings forming an L-shaped plan overall. Service end heated by internal end stack, hall and inner room by internal lateral rear stacks, all with brick shafts. 2 storeys. Exterior Front: former service end now largely obscured by a C20 projection containing a kitchen, under a synthetic slate catslide. Between this and the doorway to the through-passage are the remains of a stair turret with a first floor 2-light casement window. Otherwise a 3-window range, with 3-light casement windows to first floor, and four 2-light casement windows to ground floor; 3 doorways, all with planked doors. Both left hand and right hand ends retain one C19 casement window. Rear: the wall of the service end is slightly recessed suggesting a rebuilding: various late additions to ground floor, with 4 C19 casement windows above. Interior: Hall with deeply chamfered, unstopped cross ceiling beam; rear fireplace blocked but parts of the timber lintel and jambs visible. Inner room with shallow chamfered unstopped cross ceiling beam, fireplace with unchamfered lintel. Roof trusses (visible in bedrooms) are straight. .
