ZEAL MONACHORUM ZEAL MONACHORUM SS 70 SW 4/84 Yew Tree Cottage - GV II

House, formerly 2 cottages. Possibly C18 with mid C19 front. Mostly plastered cob and rubble and front of snecked local stone with brick dressings; stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatch roof. Originally 2 cottages facing west. The right (southern) former cottage apparently had a 2-room plan and the left a 1-room plan. Each end room has a rear lateral stack. 2 storeys. Irregular 4-window front of C19 and C20 replacement casements, most with glazing bars. The left end ground floor window is blocked by a secondary addition and the window above is blind. All apertures have brick heads. Most are flat but the former doorway left of centre (now blocked by a window) and the window above have low segmental arches. The doorway right of centre contains a mid C19 plank door and has a contemporary porch with a light wrought-iron frame, now with a gabled zinc roof. Roof is half-hipped each end. Interior has plain carpentry detail where exposed. Roof not inspected.
