Details
CHAWLEIGH SS 71 SW 2/33 Stone Mill Bridge - GV II Road bridge over Little Dart River. Probably early C19. Roughly snecked mudstone with granite dressings. Bridge of 2 uneven spans, a large segmental arch on south- west (Chawleigh) side and narrower round-headed arch to north-east. Both plain vaults with outer rings of roughly-finished voussoirs. The main pier is rectangular in plan projecting only a little from main bridge and battering back into wall as it rises to plain granite string course at road level. Small projecting cutwaters rise to about level of arch springing. Rubble parapet with granite coping weathered slightly on both sides and simple terminals.
