Details

SILVERTON KING STREET, Silverton SS 90 SE 7/255 Ardern House - GV II Detached cottage. Possibly late C17 or early C18. Roughcast cob with stone footings. Gabled-end thatched roof. Simple 2-celled dwelling, with corner stack, occupying corner site, with rear wing running along King Street. 2-storeys. Front: (to King Street): the wing is recessed, with 2 first floor window, 1 under a shallow eyebrow eaves, and with 2 to ground floor to the right of door; two 2-light windows to older range with 1 of 3-lights above; the eaves line runs steeply and erratically to meet the corner internal stack, with brick shafts. Tiverton Road elevation with small window at eaves level, a 3-light window below, and a tiny fire window to the right of this. All casements C20, but embrasures look old. Interior: some chamfered beams, unstopped; 1 truss partially visible in upper room could be a jointed cruck. Roof space not inspected.
