Ladybird Cottage

GV
II

Cottage. Probably late C18. Painted roughcast rendered stone rubble to first floor,
cob above. Thatch roof, hipped at left end with rendered cob stack, half-hipped at
right end. Rendered brick stack to rear right-hand room.
Plan: Former 2-room and central passage plan, much altered in C20 when the front
doorway was blocked and entry made at right end, left-hand passage partition removed
and staircase replaced. The right-hand room was probably originally unheated, the
brick stack added apparently in late C19 or early C20, when a small kitchen outshut
was built at the rear, the stack heating both room and outshut.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Entrance at right end has single 2-light casement 6 panes per
light on each floor to right of C20 stone porch with gabled roof. Single 12-paned
sash above C20 window to left of former front entrance.
Interior: entirely altered in C20. Fireplace to left-hand room has rough chamfered
timber lintel with diagonal stops. Feet of rough roof principals suggest late C18
roof structure intact.
