Details
CHULMLEIGH SOUTH MOLTON STREET, (west side), SS 6814-6914 Chulmleigh 7/104 Mid Devon House GV II
House. Probably late C18 or early C19 fabric, remodelled in late C19. Joint-lined rendered stone rubble and cob. Slate roof with gable ends. Brick stack at right end with dog tooth coursing and rebuilt brick stack to rear heating left-hand room. Plan: Principal front room to each side of entrance passage containing staircase, the larger left-hand room heated by rear brick stack, with single storey kitchen outshut to rear. Chamber at left end extends over carriage-way through to rear courtyard at left end, the courtyard containing an L-shaped range of outbuildings extending down the left side and returning along rear boundary wall. Exterior: 2 storeys. 3 window range. All late C19/early C20 4 paned sashes with hoodmoulds and deep chamfered sills. Tripartite sash to left of 4 panelled door with bracketted lean-to canopy. Double plank doors at left end to cobbled carriageway through to rear courtyard. Outbuildings on left side have external steps to loft at front end and twin segmental arched sash window to ground floor. Interior: Apart from alterations to the principal room fireplaces, C19 joinery including panelled doors, staircase and integral cupboards are entirely intact. Patterned tiled floor to entrance passage.
