Details
COMBE MARTIN BUZZACOTT ROAD SS 64 NW 2/56 Buzzacott Manor - 25.2.65 GV II Large house. Circa 1800 with late C19 alterations and extension to rear. Painted stuccoed stone rubble. Hipped slate roof with massive central brick ridge stack with 8 pots. Modillion cornice. Main range rectangular on plan with principal room to each side of entrance hall with principal staircase running up behind right-hand room, and servants staircase to rear of left-hand room. Service wing, extended in late C19, to rear left side forming overall L-shaped plan. 3 storeys. 5 bays. Symmetrical. 3 over 6 paned sashes to upper storey, otherwise 12-paned sashes, except to ground floor window to left of porch which was built out in late C19 as bay window with double sash window. Tripartite sashes to central bay above porch. Dentilled cornice to porch canopy supported on C20 replacement columns. Panelled door surround with flanking engaged pilasters, fluted frieze and 6-panelled door. 3-window range to right end, the central windows are blind, those to the 2 upper storeys containing Adam-style urns with swag decoration to the drums. Large pointed arched Gothick stair window with intersecting glazing bars to rear lighting principal staircase, and impressively tall 68 paned sash to left end lighting servants stair. Interior: pointed entrance hall and first floor landing archways with fluted keystones and panelled soffits flanked by fluted pilasters. Dog-leg staircase with wreathed handrail ramped up to turned newels, stick balusters and moulded string. C19 joinery including 6-panelled doors principally intact.
