14/38 The Castle including garden - railings to garden at left

GV II

House, formerly inn. C18 or earlier with a circa late C18 or C19 rear outshut. Colourwashed stone rubble with a slate roof, gabled at ends ; projecting left end stack, right end stack, axial stack, all with stone shafts. Plan: Single depth with rear outshut which is probably an addition. The original range has probably 2 rooms to left and I room to right of carriageway of centre. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 7 window front with regular fenestration ; large carriage entrance with a timber lintel in the first 2 bays from the right. Fenestration of early C19 16-pane sashes ; 4 windows to the ground floor. The first floor left hand, second from left and fourth from left bays have blocked or false windows. Interior: Not inspected but may contain features of interest including the possiblity of early roof trusses. An interior inspection might involve revising the suggested dating. Circa early/mid C19 garden railings to garden at left with spearhead and vase finials are included in the listing.
