NEWTON ST CYRES THE VILLAGE SX 89 NE 5/34 Nos. 1 and 2 - 26.8.65 GV II Pair of cottages. - Late. 017 - early C18. Plastered cob on rubble footings. Cob and brick stacks, thatched roof half hipped at north-west end. Central and left- hand (north-west) part of a row of cottages. Long, low building along street front on raised pavement. 2-storeys with first floor partly in roofspace. Stacks to rear. Large (probably cob) stack projecting behind No.1. Both cottages have 2 windows on each floor but spacing and size are irregular - all C19 and C20 casements. No.1 has door to right, No.2 has central door. Thatch eaves arch sharply over first floor windows. Although pavement drops steeply from left to right, the roof rises to the right in a concave curve to join the C20 slate roof of No.3. Included for group value.
