5/12 Range of 2 farmbuildings west of - Grilstone

GV II

2 farmbuildings, probably a shippon and threshing barn. Probably a C19 remodelling and extension of C17 buildings. Mostly stone rubble with some cob on the farmyard (east) side and slate roofs. Plan: The range encloses the west side of Grilstone farmyard. The shippon range (to the south) has been adapted for stabling; the threshing barn, with a higher roofline, adjoins at the north and is used for storage. Exterior: Shippon with a loft. On the farmyard side the shippon is stone rubble at the left and cob on stone rubble to the right. Loft doorway in the cob section with a row of pigeon holes, 2 ground floor doorways and 4 windows. On the west side, facing the road, the shippon has 4 ground floor windows and 2 loft doors. The barn is a mixture of cob and stone on the east side with double doors in a large doorway; the road elevation has 2 sets of double doors. Forms part of an irregular and attractive group of farmbuildings north-west of Grilstone.
