Yarnacott Farmhouse, including
15.9.76 ciderhouse attached to west
II
Farmhouse with cider house, now store shed with loft over attached. Farmhouse
probably early C16 with C17 remodelling and C20 alterations. Ciderhouse C17 with
C19 alterations. Farmhouse of painted rendered stone and cob with tiled roof.
Ciderhouse of stone rubble with corrugated iron roof. Farmhouse has tall lateral
rubble stack with offsets to hall in 3-room cross-passage plan, probably originally
an open hall house. Cupboard inserted in through-passage with blocked rear
entrance. 2 storeys 4-window range. C19/20 fenestration. Corrugated asbestos
canopy to slate-capped steps to cross-passage doorway. Buttress at left end.
Ciderhouse has external steps to loft plank door. 5-light timber mullion window to
rear.
Interior: farmhouse has fine plank and muntin screen to upper end of hall, 6
panels wide with chamfer-with-roll-moulded muntins, stopped above the dais bench.
Hall ceiling beams are without mouldings. 3 raised cruck trusses set low over hall
and inner room, suggesting this may once have been an open hall house, though roof
inspection not possible. Stop-chamfered beams to ciderhouse.
