STOKENHAM SX74SE Barn West of Molescombe 7/170 House
GV II
Barn. Probably late C17 or C18, remodelled in C19. Slate rubble. Asbestos slate roof with half hipped and gabled ends. Plan: Long barn with cart entrance at front to right of centre and small blocked opening at rear. In C19 the barn was remodelled, reduced in height and reroofed, the new roof carried down at front to form a cattle shelter facing farmyard. Adjoining at right angles on front of left hand end is a C19 barn. (Barn west south west of Molescombe House qv) facing the farmyard. Exterior: The main roof is carried down at front over open-fronted cattle shelter with large rectangular slate rubble piers, the bay to right of centre wider and gabled in front of the cart entrance of barn behind. Various small openings in the barn wall including ventilation slits cut short by C19 roof. Interior: Plastered walls, truncated ventilation slits. 14-bay C19 scissor- braced soft wood roof structure.
