STOKENHAM BICKERTON SX83NW No. 2 Bickerton Farm 10/191 Cottage 19.1.89 GV II
Cottage. Circa late C17. Painted stone rubble. Thatched roof with gabled left hand end and hipped right hand end. Large stone rubble stack at left end with slate weathered set-offs. Plan: Small 2-room plan house, with central entrance, the larger left hand room has a gable end stack with an oven. The small right hand room at lower end is unheated. There is a later outbuilding against the right hand end and a small C20 outshut at the back. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window south front. One window on first floor and 2 on ground floor. C20 2-light casements with glazing bars slate sills and timber lintels. Doorway to right of centre with timber lintel and C20 glazed door. Left hand west gable end has large projecting stack with set-offs and projecting oven at base. Right hand east end has C20 2-light casement on first floor with slate sill. Small single storey C20 outshut at rear with corrugated asbestos roof. Interior: Not inspected but might be of interest. The fireplace in the left end stack has an oven but its lintel is said to have been replaced. The roof structure might be original.
