Details

SLAPTON START SX84NW Lower Coltscombe 5/124 II

Farmhouse. Circa 1830-40. (Farm building dated 1835). Rendered stone rubble with masonry lining at the front and slate hung on left (west) side. Slate roof with gabled ends and deep bracketed eaves at front. Rendered gable end stacks with turned clay pots. Plan: Double depth plan with 2 principal front rooms and doorway between to right of centre and probably service rooms at the back. Exterior: 2 storeys, attic and basement. Almost symmetrical 3-window south front, the windows disposed to the right. Original 16-pane sashes. Doorway to right of centre with reeded pilaster doorcase with fretted panel reveals and C19 flush panelled and glazed door; C19 open porch, or flight of slate steps, with reeded columns, later openwork spandrels and wooden lattice balustrade at front. The left hand west side is slate hung and has C20 casements. The right hand east side also has some C20 casement. At the rear a single storey outshut to left and a C20 wooden porch in the angle. Interior was not inspected.
