Schoolroom and adjoining schoolmistress's house, now one house. 1860-1 to designs of J L Pearson, who also designed the church of St Barnabas (qv). and Brooking House (q.v). Local limestone rubble with dressed quoins. Steeply pitched asbestos slate roof with half hipped end with small gablets. Low crested ridge tiles of the type used in the C17 and simple clay finials over the gablets. Stone rubble axial ridge stack. Rag slate hung gables. Plan: Overall L-shaped plan with 3-room plan schoolmistress's house to the right with an integral outshut to the right back, and the former school room in a wing projecting on the left. The right-hand gable end of the house faces the road. Arts and crafts vernacular revival style. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical east front with 2 window masters house to right with C18 2-light casements in small slate hung gables; ground floor right a depressed 2-centred ash doorway with a C19 plank door with wrought iron hinges; ground floor window to left is a C20 casement in the original opening with a timber lintel. Half-nipped gable end of former school room to left with C19 2-light first floor casement with a timber lintel and a C19 4-light first floor casement window also with a timber lintel and a wide relieving arch. In the angle to the right a blocked doorway to the schoolroom with a slated hood and a small round-headed window inserted. To the left south, return of the school room a C20 canted bay window to the right and a small slate hung gable to the left with a casement. At the rear west, an outshut with a catslide roof behind the house; the outshut to right, a part of the north dwelling, was enclosed in c20. (Post Office Directory, 1866) Interior: not inspected.
