DARTINGTON SX7862-SX7962 DARTINGTON HALL 12/126 Wall and pair of gate-piers adjoining SE of Old Postern

GV II

Garden wall adjoining Old Postern (qv), with gateway arch and pair of adjoining gate-piers C19 wall and gate-piers with re-set C16 doorway arch and jambs. Local limestone rubble wall, limestone ashlar gate-piers and granite re-set doorway frame. Section of wall about 10 metres long with rough stone capping and with C16 4-centred arch doorway through with double roll moulding and covered stops; the arch is rebated for a door but the jambs are not. At the south end a pair of early to and C19 limestone ashlar gate-piers, one attached to end of wall, the other attached to the coachhouse, stable and barn range (qv); the gate-piers have chamfered plinths and caps with coved cornices.
