DARTINGTON SX76SE DARTINGTON HALL 1/139 Nos 8 and 9 Warren Lane 23.7.92 GV II

Pair of attached houses. 1938 by Robert Hening for Dartington Hall. Built by Staverton Builders. Whitewashed brick. Flat roof. Plan: Pair of symmetrically planned attached houses, each the mirro image of the other with the kitchen and entrance hall at the front, the hall with an integral porch in the front corners and with a large living room at the back, the bedrooms above having a balcony. Projecting at the centre of the front are a pair of garages at lower ground level. International Modern Style. Exterior: 2 storeys symmetrical 1:2:1 window front. First floor closely- spaced central window bands flanked by small windows towards either end. At centre on ground floor a wide recessed window flanked by kitchen doorways and integral windows with small windows near the conrners; the corners are cut away to form porch with steel posts supporting the corner lintels. At lower level at centre of the front a pair of flat-roof garages. Glazed doors and metal frame windows without glazed bars. Wide window bands t the corners and balconies at the rear. Interior: might contain simple original features similar to those in No 3 qv. Nos 8 and 9 were designed entirely by Hening and is the last to be built of the group of houses in Warren Lane by Lescaze and Hening.
