Well-preserved and sizeable Italianate hotel, circa 1850, three storeys, all of stucco, painted white with 'dressings' in black. Symmetrical convex curve, with main block seven windows wide flanked on each side by wings three and four windows wide. Each bay of wings and central bay of main block articulated by giant rusticated pilaster strips. Central bay has tripartite entrance divided by pilasters, with two tripartite windows over, similarly divided, with triangular pediment on top. Other windows of main block plain sashes on all three floors, except shop windows to right of entrance with coupled consoles on fascia. Frieze to ground floor, cornices to first and second floors. Straight parapet rising over pilaster strips to raised erections with balls on top and over central bay to semi-circular pedimental feature. Wings have bar windows and shop windows (Nos 13-15) below, blocking course on top shallower than central parapet.
Nos 1 to 17 (odd) Pembroke Hotel, Nos 25 to 31 (odd) Nos 39 to 45 (odd) and Nos 2 to 34 (even) Poole Hill form a group with Nos 166 to 196 (even) Commercial Road.
