gateway and gates to Hall
(formerly listed as two
separate items)

GV II

Gate piers, walls, entrance gateway and gates to Hall, flanking the road. c1625 and
C18. Rubble limestone and sandstone ashlar. Gate piers to the south, C18, ashlar,
square in plan with ball finials. Walls with coping stones extend northwards and with
two steps up link the entrance gateway of c1625 and then continue with two steps down
to the north. The gateway has a single round headed arch with projecting keystones
and partly projecting quoins. Surmounted by a heavy balustrade on chamfered parapet
base and with three ball finials. The ironwork gates are attributed to Robert
Bakewell.
