BRADBOURNE
ASHBOURNE ROAD (South Side)
Bradbourne Mill

GV
II

Watermill, now cowshed and store. Late C18/early C19 with C20 alterations. Rubble limestone with plain tile roof, T-plan, two storey storage range to south with a three storey north west range housing mill. Most C19 milling machinery remains, including three pairs of running stones, hurst frame with belt drives and pulleys, sack-hoist openings, chutes and hoppers. Two C19 backshot metal waterwheel with pentroughs at north-east elevation. Various irregular openings to south elevations.

Summary of Importance: Bradbourne Mill is an example of a mid to late C18 water-powered corn mill which has been considerably altered in the mid C19 when the mill machinery was replaced. The survival of most of the machinery affords the mill special interest in the national context.
