12.7.67 Leadmill Bridge (formerly
listed as bridge over
R. Derwent)
II
Road bridge. Late C18, widened in 1928. Coursed rubble and ashlar gritstone,
massive on west side, incorporating three arches with pointed cutwaters to piers.
East side; coursed rubble spandrels and arch linings, depressed semi-circular
arches and stepped cutwaters below shallow band course, narrow parapet with
shallow chamfer to coping course. West side; massive ashlar to spandrels and
parapet, and ashlar arch linings. Depressed semi-circular arches with voussoirs,
below chamfered band course, and parapet above with flattened saddleback copings.
Plaque on inner face of west parapet records widening in 1928 by the then County
Surveyor, A W Horton. See also HATHERSAGE Parish.
