2. In two parts. Western section. C18. Painted brick with steeply pitched, slate roof and moulded eaves cornice. 2 storeys and dormer. 1 window, sashes with boxed frames, 1st floor with glazing bars, ground floor, 3 light sash with late C19 glazing. Eastern section Circa 1800. White brick facade with stucco plinth. Hipped bellcast slate roof and moulded wood eaves cornice. 3 storeys and (modern) attic. 5 windows, sashes, uppers with glazing bars, centre 1st floor of 3 lights with stone pediment above, and with flanking pilasters. Iron balcony extends along width of lst floor. Wide porch with Tuscan columns. Door flanked by narrow lights with wide fanlight over the whole. (NMR).
Nos 4 to 6 (even), 6a, 8 to 12 (even), 12a, 14 to 18 (even) and the King's Arms Hotel form a group with Nos 1 to 11 (odd) opposite, the Castle, signboard of King's Arms Hotel and the Constable's House and Town Bridge opposite. Nos 10, 12 and 12A also form part of a group on Millhams Street and the Town Bridge also forms part of a group to the east. Nos 8 and 10 are buildings of local interest.
