Details

WESTBURY 1. 1625 (East Side) Digby Estate Nos 251 to 255 (consec) ST 6316 1/240 II GV 2. C18 or earlier. Five 2 storey stone rubble cottage fronts, the centre three (until summer 1971) with thatched roof. Grade II for group value. The following notes relate to appearance prior to July 1971. No 255 with plaintile roof. A 2-light window with small panes and leaded glazing on first floor; a modern 3-light, 3-tier window with lintel below; to left hand below, 6-flush-panelled door with frame and lintel. Nos 254 and 253 formerly with same height to frontage and with thatched roof; one 2-light leafed window each above; below, No 254 has Georgian shop window 4 panes deep and 6 panes wide to left hand with ledged door to right hand; in No 253, sash window and ledged door on ground floor. No 252 with slightly higher frontage; also, formerly with thatched roof. Above, 3-light modern casement to left hand and a 3-light leaded window to right hand; on ground floor, sash window with lintel to left hand and right hand ends and ledged door in middle. No 251 of 2 storeys and attic and with much higher frontage. 1 dormer. On first floor, a 2-light segmental headed window with small panes; segmental headed sash window with glazing bars on ground floor and to left of it, 6-flush-panelled door in segmental headed doorway. Nos 251 to 255 are in an important position in relation to the Hospital of Saintd John the Baptist and Evangelist and to the entrance to Abbey Close.

Digby Estate Nos 251 to 255 (consec), Twyford, The Sherborne Do-it-Yourself Centre and Wessex Club, Digby Estate No 247, Sherborne Gallery, Westbury Studio, Dolphin House, Estcourt and Brookfield form a group.
