NEWLAND 1. 1625 North Side) No 1 No 3 (Wembley) Nos 5 and 7 No 13 (Cheapside) (Formerly listed as No 3 Wembley and 2 adjoining cottages. ST 6316 1/176 30.11.71. II GV 2. Nos 3, 5 and 7 are ranged round a "drain" or court known as Higher Newland. No 1: C19 front. 2 storey, 2 window pebbledash house, in scale both with this group in Newland and with the more important group in Cheap Street and in Higher Cheap Street (see group notes above for New1and and group notes for Cheap Street (East Side) and for Higher Cheap Street) 2 small sash windows above and another to right hand below; shape front to left hand on corner. To right hand, lower connecting wing of 1 bay in width in recession with another north-south wing of 1 bay in width, projecting forward from it and built as lean-to outshut against No 3; pebble dash wall with ledged door between the latter and main part of No 1. Nos 3 and 5: C17 origin probably. 2 storeys. Pantile gabled roof. Colour- washed stone rubble front. Central mock 4-centred arch leads to No 7 at rear; small 3-light stone mullioned window above it. In No 3, to left of passageway, one 4-light- window with small wood panes above. Below, a 3-light sash window to left hand, door with cover, strips and doorway with architrave frame in centre and later 3-light sash window to right hand. In No 5, to right of passageway, 2-light casement windows with small panes on first floor, and a 3-light stone mullioned window with dripmould on ground floor. Entrance at north-east end of passageway. No 7: to rear of No 13 and accessible through passageway through Nos 3 and 5. 2 storeys and attic. 1 window bay and door. Pantile roof. Stone rubble front. 2-light casement window above to left hand; 3-light window below. Ledged door in frame with glazed porch before it. No 13: forms part of some range as Nos 3 and 5. Probably C17 core. 2 storeys. 3 windows. Pantile roof. Stone rubble front. External chimney at left hand end, stone in lower part with tall narrow stack of brick above. Above, 2-light windows and one 3-light casement at east end; moulded cornice above ground floor windows; fixed modern window to left hand of doorway, sash window without glazing bars to right hand and central modern ledged door.
Nos 1 to 7 (odd) and Nos 13 to 17 (odd) form a group.
