At the back of this building (which is modern) there is part of a timber-fronted house facing Long Street. The house itself was demolished in 1926, but part of the ground floor was preserved. This consists of two timber posts with moulded bases and caps, above which curved braces support oversailing joists. Contemporary muntin and panel filling between posts. Late medieval.
The timber framed structure to the rear of No 87 forms a group with Premises occupied by Mr Pearson, Rose Cottage, Former Castle Hotel, The Bank House, Premises occupied by The National Westminster Bank, Old Bank House and Abbot's Litten, Long Street.
