- II
Lodge, C19. Stuccoed brick, slate roof. L-plan, with wings extending and S, chimney stacks in N and E walls, entrance in SW angle, facing original London approach to Chigwell Hall. Single storey wings extending N and E from NE corner, with hipped roof bridging the angle between them to form a canopy over the rear entrance. Canopy across the SW angle, over the original front door. C20 chimney stack at NE corner. Single storey with attics. S elevation, gable f end treated as an open pediment, the central part of the ground floor only set slightly forward of the rest. One double-hung sash window of 16 lights, mid C19, on ground floor, above it a C19 casement window with round arch, semi- circular drip mould with'false keystone in stucco, low-pitched roof with projecting eaves and paired brackets. Identical treatment of W gable. Originally the SW elevation presented a door across the angle, with a simple pilaster at each end of the canopy and a double-hung sash window of 12 lights each side of the door. Canopy enclosed by glazed screen and glazed outer door in C20. Rear windows are C20 casements.
