Details
TL 50 NE WILLINGALE BIRDS GREEN, (West side), Tilehouse Farm 5/100 GV 11*
Farmhouse, probably C15 and C16, timber framed and plastered and of 2 storeys with gabled peg tile roofs. 'L' shaped plan form with the shorter northern arm of greater height with large gablet making up the difference between ridges. Very large square stack on ridge line against north flank of crosswing. Windows are C19 casements with 2 horizontal glazing bars and some old small C17 iron casements. Stair tower in rear angle between blocks. Front door in original position has C20 gabled porch with peg tile roof. Internally an elaborate 2 bay crosswing probably C15, formerly jettied in front with a very complete smoke bay to the rear. In the north flank are 3 service door openings 2 with moulded jambs one formerly leading to stairs to upper level. Roof is massively framed side purlin type with large wind bracing and collars. Suggestions of former ground floor oriel window on front and some inserted ovolo-mullioned windows. The northern block is an integrally floored hall block of the early-middle C16 with newel stair to the rear. (RCHM 9).
