GV II

House. Late C16, altered in C19 and C20. Partly timber framed and plastered, partly of red brick in Flemish bond, roofed with handmade red clay tiles and slate. Comprises 3 parallel ranges aligned NE-SW, facing SE (1) late C16 timber framed range of 3 bays with central stack, probably originally of lobby-entrance plan, with tiled roof, (2) early C19 brick entrance range to SE, with an internal stack at each end, roofed with slate, (3) C19 brick service range to rear, roofed with slate. Small C19 2-storey extension to NE, plastered with slate roof. 2 small C20 single-storey extensions to NW, with slate roofs. 2 storeys. 3-window range of early C19 sashes of 16 lights, with flat brick arches and some crown glass. Central door altered to sash window in C20. Roof of shallow pitch with long overhanging eaves. 6-panel door with flat canopy in left return. Jowled posts, curved braces trenched outside close studding. Chamfered transverse and axial beams with lamb's tongue stops, joists plastered to the soffits. Edge-halved and bridled scarfs in wallplates. Roof not examined, but the ceiling of the upper rooms appears to be an C18 insertion.
