RAYLEIGH GREAT WHEATLEY ROAD TQ 79 SE 2/77 Great Wheatley Farmhouse GV II
House. C16 or earlier origin with C18 extensions and later alterations and additions including C19 east wing. Timber framed and plastered. Hipped red plain tiled well roof. Left and right gault brick chimney stacks. 2 storeys and cellar. 3 window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes. 5 step approach to central 2 panel 4 light door, fanlight over, fluted pilasters with capitals and bases, patera, moulded flat canopy. Fine full width lead roofed cast iron verandah with ornate cornice, 8 pierced supports, ornate rails. Gabled C19 range to left. Interior features include, heavy chamfered bridging joists flat section ceiling beams and side girts to original build. Cellar with wine niches. C18 and C19 vertically boarded doors with ironmongery and C18 6 panelled doors, moulded surrounds, wainscots etc. Ground floor front windows with panelled vertically sliding shutters, reveal shutters to other windows. Dog leg stick staircase, mouldings to open string, wreathed ground floor newel. Foliate cast iron fire surround and one other similar surround.
