Gate-piers and railings at main entrance to former Naval
Hospital. Mid C19. Dressed Plymouth limestone square-on-plan
piers with plinths, moulded cornices and caps ramped up to
ball finials. Flanking cast-iron railings have
quadrant-on-plan section to each side liked to panelled
cast-iron pier/lamp holder and then there is a straight
section parallel to the road to ashlar terminal piers with
squat pyramidal caps. The railings are on low coped plinths;
the curved sections of railings have roundel friezes.
Part of an outstanding and complete military hospital complex.
