TWATLING ROAD
No 13, Briarwood
GV II
House. Dated 1891; by J. L. Ball, for J. A. Christie. Stretcher bond red brick. Clay plain tile gabled roof with plain stone kneelers. Axial and lateral brick stacks with round arch panels. PLAN: H-shaped on plan with an axial passage linking the porch in the front left angle and the staircase in the front right angle. Domestic Revival/Queen Anne style. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. Almost symmetrical NE front with flanking projecting gables, carried down over out-shuts in the inner angles, the right containing the staircase, the left is the porch with a recessed pilastered doorcase and a tablet above inscribed 'Briar Wood MDCCCXCI'; set back at the centre a pair of small gables to the attic; 2-light casements at centre with leaded panes and sashes to left and right with glazing bars and gauged brick flat arches. Symmetrical SW garden front with similar tall narrow sashes, flanking projecting gables, canted 2-storey bay at centre with pair of small gables above. INTERIOR: Altered.
