CHURCH STREET 1. 5128 Caversham Caversham Free Public Library SU 7174 11/455 II 2. Foundation stone laid 23.iij 1907. Site given by Andrew Carnegie. Architect possibly F W Albury. Irregular red brick and stone sub-Voysey style with tiled roof. Asymmetrically disposed gables - one with inscription, other with date - flanking off centre tower which has pylon corner piers, and which is capped by ball finials and a small copper domed stair turret. Entrance in tower with large columns. Above is an Atlas figure (signed B L) supporting a clock. 3 windows in all, 3, 1 and 2 lights with dividing pilasters of alternate stone and brick and floral caps. Memorial tablet in marbled lobby. 3 window return to Hemdean Road. Interior altered.
