THE FORBURY 1. 5128 Shire Hall SU 7173 NE 1/305 26.7.73. II GV 2. 1904-11, by Warwick and Hall. Queen Anne style. Red brick with, Portland channelled ground floor and occasional quoins. Painted modillion cornice. Slate roof with balustraded top and panelled corner chimneys. 3 storeys, attic and basement. 5 bays, casements with glazing bars, eared architraves on 2nd floor, on 1st floor centre 3 segmental headed windows with open segmental pediment and keys, outer ones have bolection surrounds and keys. Modified Doric projecting portico in antis to ground floor extending across side windows, a pair of columns in centre and 2 more each side. Steps to entrance with round headed doorway with flanking niches. Altar-type cast iron lamp standards on flanking walls of steps. Wide dormer with cornice broken round it. Interior: groin vaulted hall.
