FORBURY GARDENS 1. 5128 Archway connecting Forbury Gardens to Abbey Ruins . Including retaining walls flanking path to Abbey ruins SU 7173 NE 1/482 II* 2. Mid C19 archway incorporating numerous fragments from the C12 Abbey. Flint base and high parapet walls (see Wall between Forbury Road and Abbot's Walk, Forbury Road). Soffit built of reused ashlar from abbey. Voussoirs are sculptured fragments (roll-mould, chevron, catshead etc). Each corner has imposts formed of double nook shaft capitals. The retaining walls on either side of alley leading to Abbey Ruins contain many more fragments included the north-west crossing pier capital.
