Details
GASWORKS ROAD 1. 5128 Blakes Lock Sewage Pumping Station The Screens House SU 7273 7/601 II G.V. 2 Screens House. C.1870. Red brick walls, grey brick patterning and dressings; cast iron small port windows; red tile roof. Simple rectangular building, originally housing filters for sewage. Detailing similar to Engine House (qv) but less elaborate. South elevation (to River Kennet) has to each side a round headed lancet window, flanking 3 full-height doorways divided by narrow brick piers, all fitted with boarded doors, the outer double-leaf, the centre single. Roof hipped to right and left on ridge, large timber louver with pyramidal slated roof and turned finial.
