NORTHILL ICKWELL

Garden monument approx 100m NW of Ickwell Bury II

Garden monument with sundial. Probably erected circa 1803 by Major John Harvey to commemorate the raising of a Regiment of House Artillery (Lt Col M F F Baines(ed) Territorial Army, Royal Auxiliary, Air Force, Home Guard and Cadet Units in Bedfordshire. 1955, p23). Dressed limestone. Takes form of obelisk approximately 1.5 metres high. S elevation has sundial with incised inscription (difficult to decipher). N elevation shows the arms of the regiment and inscriptions, including some indicating the ranges of various weapons.
