TL 1445 NORTHILL ICKWELL, CALDECOTE ROAD

9/61 No. 2 (Tompion's Cottage) 31.10.66 GV II

Cottage. C17 with C19 reworking. Timber framed structure with colourwashed roughcast render. Thatched roof. 3-room plan, W bay probably later, one storey and attics. Road elevation: one 2-light casement, one round-headed casement with pointed arched glazing bars, and one 3-light casement, all with leaded lights. Plank door under C20 gabled porch. Double red brick ridge stack with diagonally set flues. W gable has canted bay with leaded lights to ground floor and round-headed window similar to front one to attic. Front shows C20 plaque: "The birthplace of Thomas Tompion, clockmaker. Born 1639. Died 20th November 1713. Buried in Westminster Abbey."
