Details
WOBURN SP-9632-9732 WOBURN PARK 10/147 Statue of Adonis (formerly listed 23.1.61 under Sculptural groups in Woburn GV II Abbey Courtyard) Statue. Circa 1700 by J V Legterin (floruit 1685-1708). Ashlar, blackened at a later date (probably to disguise the repairs in marble) to imitate lead. Stands on rectangular ashlar plinth with moulded base and cap. Statue and plinth together stand approximately 3 metres high. Depicts standing figure of Adonis with putto at L heel. Holds remains of something in R hand (probably a bow) and has quiver on L. Forms a group with items 10/145, 10/146 and 10/148, which depict Diana, Juno and Apollo.
