Public house. Circa early C18. Stone rubble, partly rendered on seaward side with
slate roof with hipped end on left, gable end on right and hipped rear projecting
wing on left. Brick chimney stack on right-hand gable end with end stacks to 2
heated rooms on left removed.
Built into the side of the hill with basement probably originally used as store.
Plan altered with rear wing remodelled. Possibly originally overall 'L' shaped plan
with central cross passage, 2 rooms on left and one on right, all heated by end
stacks and stair to rear of passage. Rear entrance from Fore Street to rear of
right-hand room.
3 storeys and attic symmetrical 3-window front. Ground floor with dressed stone
segmental arches with C19 16-pane sash to left, plank doors to right and in centre.
First floor with 3 tall probably C19 18-pane horned sashes with brick segmental
arches and second floor with three 12-pane sashes, two with horns. 6-pane sash in
full dormer with raked roof above. Rear elevation with C18 18-pane sash with heavy
glazing bars.
Interior with room on left with moulded plasterwork ceiling and painted bolection
moulded chimney-piece. Room in projecting wing to rear with C19 stove made by Oatey
and Martyn of Wadebridge. Several C18 2-panel doors and C19 6-panel doors. C18
closed string open well stair with square newels, moulded rail and turned balusters.
Upper floors not inspected.
