Details

SW 98 SE ST ENDELLION CHURCH HILL, (west side), Port Isaac 9/36 No 12 (Tremaine House) 6.6.69 GV II House, later house and hat shop, and now reverted to private house. Possibly early C18, extended with projecting front wing in circa mid C18 and remodelled in mid C19. Stone rubble, rendered and painted on ground floor and slate-hung above ground floor on front. Rag slate roof with gable end on left and originally hipped end on right, later extended by gabled front projecting wing. Brick chimney stack on left-hand gable end, side lateral chimney stack on rear corner of front projecting wing and lateral chimney stack heating service room to rear. Original plan much altered and probably remodelled in mid to late C19. Double depth plan with central cross passage, stair to rear of projecting wing on front right and service room in integral outshut to rear heated by rear lateral stack. 2 storeys regular 4-window front, with casements partly replacing C19 sashes in range on left as illustrated in C19 photograph in possession of owner. Range on left with 4-light casement with small glazing bars and 4-panel door with 3- and 2-light casements above replacing C19 sashes. Projecting wing on right with C19 12-pane sash on ground floor, two 2-light casements on first floor and casement in right-hand side wall with circa late C18 glass. Interior: C20 chimney pieces in room on left and C19 fireplace to service room on rear. Remodelled C19 stair which originally formed balcony around service room to rear. Simple C19 joinery. Roof structure with chamfered principals on front slope, replaced in circa mid to late C19 to rear. Important elevation to Church Hill forming group with numbers 1, 3 and 5 Church Hill opposite (qv).
