Details
MADRON SW 43 SW 6/72 Carfury Farmhouse and front garden - walls GV II Farmhouse and front garden walls. Circa late C18. Granite ashlar throughout. Steep slurried scantle slate roof with coped gable ends and granite ashlar chimneys over the gables. Plan: double depth plan. 2 rooms at the front: wider kitchen, left, and parlour, right with cross passage between; 2 rear service rooms (partitions between right hand rooms now removed). C19 single storey lean-to at right with corbel above which originally carried an external stair to the attic. Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window front (facing roughly east) with doorway and fenestration grouped towards the right. C20 door. Circa late C19 or C20 6-pane horned sashes. Similar windows at rear. Interior: Original dog-leg stair and probably original floors and roof-structure but doors are C20. Square garden at the front enclosed by rubble walls with dressed granite cambered or shaped copings. Gateway in left hand wall near the front corner. The wall ramps up towards the house. Hooped wrought iron gate. This house is notable for having granite ashlar for all its walls and is attractive from every view point.
