Details

WEST FARLEIGH SMITHS HILL TQ 75 SW (West side) 2/34 Smith's Croft GV II

House. Early C18, with later additions and alterations. Chequered red and grey brick to left section of main range, red and grey brick in Flemish bond to right section. Right addition painted brick to front, with banded plain and fishscale tiles to first floor of right gable end. Plain tile roof. Double depth. Right section of main range breaks forwards slightly. Right addition set back slightly from front elevation. Main range 2 storeys, attic and basement, on galleted stone plinth, with plat band and moulded wooden eaves cornice. Right addition two slightly lower storeys, with plat band and cornice. Roof of main range hipped to left, hip returning to rear. Two gables to right end. Right addition has lower ridge, and two gables to right with moulded bargeboards. Projecting brick stack with two diagonally-set flues to left gable end of main range, and brick gable end stack towards rear of left return elevation. Irregular fenestration of 4 windows, all slightly recessed; one twelve-pane sash with segmental head to left section, two similar sashes and blind central window to right section. Similar arrangement to ground floor, but with eight-pane sash in blocked doorway to left end of right section, and thick glazing bars to right end window. Door of six fielded panels, with pilasters and triangular pediment, to centre of right gable end of right addition. Interior not inspected. Included for group value.
