ALDWORTH BELL LANE SU 57 NE (North side) 10/2 The Bell Inn
II House, now public house. C15 or possibly earlier with C17 and C19 alterations and C20 addition. Brick with tiled roof. Long rectangular plan running east-west with C20 extension to north-east and C17 outshut to north-west. 2 storeys, central ridge chimney of 2 stacks and end chimneys. South Elevation:- two 3-light casements to left and three 2-light casements to right of first floor, two 4-light casements with cambered heads to left and one to right of door under open sided porch with lean to and gabled tiled roof. Interior:- 4 bays of timber frame, reputedly cruck frames with large close cut set floor joists; fireplace with seats, spit rack, mantel, pot jack and salt niche in bay to left of entrance; room to left of entrance with C19 or earlier matchboarded panelling and fixed benches; C17 stair in outshut to rear of central chimney. Inspection of upper floor not allowed at time of survey.
