BEENHAM WHITE'S LANE (west side) SU 56NE 3/31 White Cottage
GV II*
House. Early C16 with c.1930 addition to right and projecting gabled wing to left. Timber framed with white painted brick nogging, thatched roof and ridge stack off-centre to left. Hall house of 3 framed bays. 2 storeys. Two C20 leaded casements on each floor; wing to left has 3 first floor casements and boarded door with thatched porch. Bay to right has large arch braces. Interior: jettied solar in bay to left; C17 floors and stack inserted in 2 bays to right. queen post trusses, wind braces and smoke blackened roof timbers. A good example of a late medieval hall house, especially interesting for its jettied solar.
